Mei Sheum
piano and keyboard player
Much has been said and written about MEI SHEUM since her entry into the music
scene at a tender age.

All of it good and most of it insufficient. Nascent thought her talent was at 19, it
was a forgone conclusion that in the years to come, she would develop into
arguably one of Singapore’s finest musician.
Today, this has come to pass. With an impressive performance resume and
several music festivals under her belt, Mei has emerged as the keyboardist of
choice for many well-known global, regional & local artistes (see insets in the
following page).

Mei has also shared the stage jamming with world renowned artistes such as
Wynton Marsalis, Ernie Watts and Eric Marienthal. Her work has taken her
round the globe, where she performed in stadiums and concert halls in
Las Vegas, New York, C h i c a g o , B o s t o n , Connecticut, Sydney,
Melbourne, Hong Kong, Ta i p e i , B e i j i n g , Shanghai , Nanj ing,
Hangzhou, Tsingtao, Wu h a n , We n z h o u ,Chengdu, Xi’an, Guiyang,
Bangkok, Osaka, Jakarta and Malaysia.

Mei has also ventured into the theatrical scene. She took on the role of Musical
Director in I Do! I Do!, a production by the Golden Apple Dinner Theatre from
USA, and performed in musicals such as Chang And Eng, The Haunted by
Theatreworks and Judah Benhur.

In 1998, Mei was awarded the Top 10 Songs Award on Radio FM 100.3’s
songwriting competition. Her mus i c education started  at Yamaha
Music School, eventually leading her to studying Chicago and Boston with
Jim McNeely, Mark Levine and Hal G a l p e r .

Perhaps in an attempt to develop the next young talent, or in a cyclical
progression for she herself to become a mentor, Mei has also participated
in Music Elective Programmes and Clinics in schools both locally and in the US.
She is currently teaching the NUS Jazz Band and privately.
