The Ethiopian Circus Project
|
In 2009 a group of talented young Ethiopian performers
travelled to their base in Australia to work on a foot
juggling and Russian Bar act. The Russian Bar act that was
created, was the first African Russian Bar act, ever to be
created. Gala Entertainment Management Director Jasmine
George along with other coaches worked days, to weeks
to months on this beautiful act, that not only surprised the
world by it's marvelous technique, but also by the
contemporary way it was presented and choreographed.
They were taught acrobatics, ballet, conditioning,
trampolining and just about everything that comes under the
banner of performing arts.. The Russian Bar act, once
finished, was then invited to compete in the International
Circus Festival of Spain, along side fellow Australian
Institute of Circus Arts student/coach David Piedra, who
competed with his Hula Hoop routine.. The act gained
interest from Festival International du Cirque de Massy,
Pinder Circus, Swiss Christmas show and many more top
shows.
In 2010 Jasmine George was invited to the Mekele,
Tigray, Ethiopia to work with a new batch of performers,
and to re-choreograph the foot juggling act for Cirque
Dream's "Jungle Fantasy" show in MGM Casino. Whilst
here she trained contortionists, acrobats, and another new
foot juggling troupe.
